I don’t know about you, but I’ve been to a lot of meetings and have had a lot of conversations about the election. Some of it is what went wrong? But the conversation quickly turns to: What now? What can we do to make a difference? What must we do?
At a recent northern Nevada meeting of the Pantsuit Nation, these engaged women (and men and folks not on the gender binary) identified four priorities:
- Win the next election
- Resist the Trump administration (when it tries to take away our rights and our freedoms)
- Repair the fabric of society (social justice)
- Fix election rules
It’s a great place to start. And the work has already started!
President-elect Donald Trump has announced that he intends to nominate U.S. Representative Tom Price (R-GA) to be the next Secretary of Health and Human Services.
“Tom Price poses a grave threat to women’s health in this country. If Price had his way, millions of women could be cut off from Planned Parenthood’s preventive health services like birth control, cancer screenings and STD tests. From his plan to take no-copay birth control away from 55 million women and allow insurance companies to charge women more for the same health coverage, to his opposition to safe and legal abortion, Price could take women back decades. Planned Parenthood will continue to work to ensure that everyone — including the 2.5 million patients we serve each year — has access to the basic health care they depend on, no matter what.”
