In Nevada, Leading With Those Normally Left Out

“The day after hundreds of thousands of people across the globe took to the streets in a network of peaceful protest marches, several of the original Women’s March organizers held a Power to the Polls event at Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas, as part of an effort to kick off a nationwide voter registration campaign and “convert the groundswell of momentum and activism into direct electoral power.” Cher, Faith Evans, and Planned Parenthood’s Cecile Richards were among the speakers and performers at the event, which put an emphasis on the particular struggles of immigrants, members of the LGBTQ community, and women of color. (Some of the other planned bold-faced attendees were stuck in Washington, D.C., due to the federal government shutdown, as congressional leaders from both parties continue to try to reach a deal to fund the government and find a solution for the young people imperiled by the end of the DACA program.)”
